Research interests:

Students’ teaching-based learning in the encounter with the person teaching is what my research is about. This means that the research also targets how teachers go about finding their students’ individual modes of learning in order to make use of this knowledge in their teaching. I prefer to focus my research questions on children’s incipient learning of written language after cracking the alphabetic code. The qualitative ethnographic research approach suits my research issues. With active participatory observation, continuous conversations, and interviews, students’ learning cultures, social conditions, and feelings can be made visible. Student learning in other countries, interculturalism, and globalisation in today’s multicultural Swedish society constitutes my current interest. A study of students’ learning of spoken English with the aid of multimedia in Thailand is my latest contribution to this field.

Teaching interests:

My teaching interests lie extremely close to my research. Teaching future teachers and future education researchers is a challenge, as is developing ethnographic tools. Together with students, being creative about their own knowledge and that of others in order to elevate practical levels to a theoretical plane is something I find elating. Using computer programs in learning written language and doing distance teaching have become my most recent challenges.
